Our Tennis Sessions

These photos were taken few months ago, when my husband just started playing tennis. He has been practicing twice a week since then, of course I tag along to refresh my skills. I suck at tennis by the way after 7 years of absence. However until today, my husband has not been able to defeat me, yet. If he continues to practice seriously, he'll be able to defeat me in a matter of weeks and will be able to play with cousins in a few months (yes, my cousins are that good!!!).

Indonesia won!

So proud of the Rhinos boys! They played very well. I (and the rest of my fellow Indonesian supporters) was simply overjoyed with such a dramatic win. Around 5 minutes before the match ends, Kirk Arundale scored a last-gasp try which put Indonesia clear of Pakistan by 20-19. We were all jumping up and down and screaming victoriously at the top of our lungs when the referee blew the whistle signaling 'end of match'.

It was one heck of a match! See the moments captured by Anne Laure Mousteou below, amazing!

"I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together."

Skinny Ankles

Zooey Deschanel and I have the same issue: SKINNY ANKLES!!! So I'm able to wholeheartedly relate to her recent article on Hello Giggles (my new favorite website - Zooey Deschanel is one of the founders) :

Stuff I Would Invent If I Had Time
Tights for Skinny Ankles: I am a year round tights girl. I will wear tights even if it’s 100 degrees outside. Tights are my safety blanket. In them, I know that I can do a sweet row of cartwheels anytime, anywhere without anyone catching a glimpse of my knickers. My biggest complaint with tights is that they do not accommodate skinny-ankled people like myself.  I spoke with Hello Giggles BFF and designer Kate Harmer – a fellow tights lover and skinny ankle-haver – about this recently.  We are tired of being judged for having bunchy tights. We don’t want to be held accountable for our lazy stockings. Wolford (who make my favorite tights), if you’re listening, hear our skinny ankle pleas, and make some tights with a little more snap around our well turned heels, please. (Hello Giggles)

Yes please, somebody?

The Olden Days

Life was very different in the olden days, was it not?

Rugby Week

Asia's leading annual rugby competition involving all 28 member unions of the Asian Rugby Football Union is happening this week! This year’s ‘HSBC Asian 5 Nations Division 3 Tournament’ is hosted by Indonesia, yesterday was the Day One of the tournament. My husband and I went there to give support to his team mates who got chosen in the Indonesian Rhinos Rugby Squad 2011. Eventhough they lost to China by 32-23, they really played well and made the supporters proud. China was simply better and luckier. Looking forward to saturday, where Indonesia will play against Pakistan at 1 PM. Go Rhinos!

Just before the kick off, China vs Indonesia.

Daniel R Nugroho, Indonesian local rugby star who got injured 4 days before the match which forced him to participate from the sidelines. Even so, he still bleeds red and white!

Admirable Kiernan Shipka

"I love organization, so I split my clothes into two closets according to seasons. Though  have to go to the guestroom to pull my fall and winter items, it’s still much easier than cramming all my clothes together in my one closet.  I love ‘space’ in between hanging clothes." - Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men's Sally Draper) told The Coveteur
I can't believe she's only eleven years old! Kiernan, if you aren’t busy filming could you come by and organize my closet and design some vintage style dresses for me? I, too, love peter pan collar, vintage dresses and Ikat fabric!

Have you watched this movie by Disney called "Secretariat"? Inspiring true story about an amazing woman and her horse. If you have ever loved a horse, you will love this movie. Diane Lane was brilliant as Penny Chenery, John Malkovich was perfect as the trainer, Lucien Laurin, and brought a lot of comic relief. Margo Martindale was perfect as Miss Ham. The star for me, however, was that beautiful and amazing horse. Secretariat AKA Big Red. It reminds me of my grandfather's horse, Prima Donna

They have couple things in common... such as:
  • both were racehorses, both thoroughbred (Prima Donna was the mixture of Chavalier and a local horse, while Secretariat was a mixture of Bold Ruler and SomethingRoyal - horses do have fancy names, don't they!),
  • both are winners,
  • both are now gone but their statues are now the signature and landmark contribution. Secretariat's statue is at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington Kentucky and Prima Donna's statue is at one of the busiest intersections in Manado.
  • Eventhough Secretariat was a Chestnut colored horse and Prima Donna was a Jet Black colored horse, they both had the same star markings
  • The most amazing thing is they both were always the last out of the gate then they charged up from behind, guided by their riders Ronnie Turcotte (Secretariat) and Ben (Prima Donna) to take the lead.

Secretariat's a beautiful horse and a camera hog as well. His records still stand at all three races of the Triple Crown - The Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes for those unfamiliar with the various tracks that are the components of the Triple Crown. Take your time to watch the the videos from Belmont Stakes '73 - when he received the Triple Crown title and his last race. Blew my mind!

Secretariat, such a remarkable horse. Legendary!  --- via Google/imagesearch
