JK Wedding Entrance Dance

I hereby stated that I regret not seeing this video before I got married. If I did, I'd do exactly the same and would have asked my bridesmaids and groomsmen to dance like the ones in the video. I shared the video to my brother, Abraham; and then he said, he definitely going to do this on his wedding day. ARRRRGGHHH!!! Oh amazing video, why didn't you show up in 2008? WHY?! Oh well, let's just do this on my 10th Wedding Anniversary. My dear friends, prepare to DANCE!!!

Tennis, anyone?

I love tennis. It's in my genes. My family from my mother's side definitely Tennis-maniacs. My grandparents played tennis all the time, my grandmother had her own tennis club until the day she couldn't walk anymore. My grandfather trained her daughter (my mother's older sister - Lany Kaligis) to play pro.

Long story short, my aunt Lany Kaligis was the first Indonesian to reach the later rounds of a Grand Slam competitions (Wimbledon, Australian Open, French Open, US Open), won Gold medals for Indonesia many times and even a regular representative of Indonesia in the Fed Cup. Just click on her name, I put a link to her Wikipedia page. I adore her so much and very proud to have an aunt like her. She's friends with Martina Navratilova, Billi Jean King, Gabriella Sabatini and many others top tennis players from the past. My aunt was really good and she is still playing and coaching tennis until today.

Her daughter/my darling cousin Matulanda Lumanauw also a tennis pro player. Eventhough she's not as successful as her mother, I'm also so damn proud of her. She got into the list of top 10 women tennis player in Indonesia for a few weeks. But today she already stopped playing pro, she's now playing tennis just for fun.

After my parents got married, my father spent the first Christmas holiday with my mother's family. He was shocked. After morning Christmas service at church, the whole family went home, had Christmas lunch. Then they started to change clothes, gathered their tennis rackets and balls. They were all heading to tennis courts, on Christmas day! They played the whole afternoon... my father never played tennis before, so he only watched them playing from the bench. Boy that pissed him off badly *LoL* then he started to learn how to play. My aunt Lany taught him and he can play ever since. Next holidays, my father officially became a "family member". LoL. My mother is pretty good too, she always wins tennis fun tournament at her office / surroundings.

My parents played tennis weekly when I was a little girl but I only started to learn when I was 5 / 6 years young. My very first coach was my own aunt Lany Kaligis, then I had several other coaches since my family moved around a lot. Played until college and didn't play for 6 years. I just started playing again last year. Thanks to my dear cousin, Denan Kaligis who is a tennis-freak. He played regularly twice/three times a week with those Top 10 Men tennis players in Indonesia. Don't get me wrong, all my cousins also can play, they're good too.

But Denan was the one who intrigued the idea. One day out of the blue he just asked my husband and I, cousin Lala to play tennis just for fun. My husband definitely got hooked up and falls head over heels in love with tennis. We hired a coach for my husband and I (7 years of absence, yea I need to practice again) and been playing every week since then. My aunt Lany Kaligis said we also can practice with her anytime, so we're getting to it next month. She's happy when people want to play tennis regularly.

I love tennis. I love the rules of tennis. I love the sound when you hit the ball. I love the smell of new tennis balls (Dunlop balls my favorite). I also looove tennis outfits (: I'm going to attach few photos of cute tennis outfits below. But first I must warn you, I an Adidas fan! So you will see a lot of Adidas tennis outfits *teehee* and I love Ana Ivanovic. So, tennis... what's not to love? Let's play!

A new hybrid tulip was created and named after actress Audrey Hepburn. An official dedication ceremony took place at her family's former mansion Huis Doorn in Doorn, Holland. Watch it if you want to see Audrey speaks Dutch. :)

Congratulations mommy-to-be and soon-to-be-bride! God knows (and everyone who has been reading this blog since the very beginning) how much I adore her!

Love Horses

Horses are beautiful animal and one of my favorites along with dogs and dolphins (in no particular order). I even love their particular smell, to me a cloying mixture of hay, urine, sweat and a certain animal gaminess given off by their oily coats. OK I know it may be gross but I do like it (: Horses are extraordinary... that is also exactly the reason why I cringe at cowboy movies and old war movies  / storybook war movies that involve horse-slaughter. Too heartbreaking. 
 
Horses are in my genes! My grandfather used to have beautiful horses and he loved them dearly. One of his favorite was a horse named Primadonna (Italian for "first lady). She was a beautiful black horse and quite famous back then. Primadonna was the horse who won the Soeharto Cup, a Horse Racing events by Equestrian Sports Association of Indonesia (PORDASI) two years in a row (both the 5th and 6th - early back then)!

If Taj Mahal built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal and until today stands as a symbol of eternal love; then my grandfather wast the Indonesian Shah Jahan and Primadonna was Mumtaz Mahal.

My grandfather built Primadonna statue and put it at one of the busiest roundabout/intersections (Paal Dua) in Manado and until today the statue is still there.

And the last "horse race" event I attended was the one in 1998, Pordasi held a horse racing event at Pulo Mas Horse Racing Venues and they actually named it "H.V. Worang Cup", honoring my late grandfather. My father and I went and presented the cup to the winner. It was sort of amazing, thank you Pordasi (:

And yes, I know how to ride a horse. I've been riding horses since I was about 10 years old, (for fun not sophisticated equestrian) but then again, I haven't ridden one for a decade *sadface* - I couldn't help but wonder, will I still be able to connect with a horse? But I do remember how lovely the connection was and how therapeutic it was. I'd love to ride more often, heck, I even want to have my own stable and have many horses! But hear this, one day when I have a handsome amount of money, I will. Cross my heart it's true. I truly want to learn and master equestrian art, I love horses and somewhere in my distant memory, horses love me too. Ugh. Writing this entry makes me want to go to the nearest stable and beg to let me ride a horse, like, right now! I. WANT. TO. RIDE.
This is me 5 or 10 years from now. Amen to that ((:

Turquoise Crush

Okay yes, I have many addictions - crazy about stripes, madly love old (vintage) style and now is the perfect time to reveal one other addiction... I love turquoise! I just love the color, it is soothing, calming, pleasing to the eye and trรจs chic (:

Looking back, it is clear to me now that I have been under consciously attracted to this color. When buying jewelry, I always somehow ended up buying turquoise color / gemstone. My wedding theme was "The Great Gatsby" and should had been decorated with black and turquoise (I still keep the sample from my wedding organizer). Took me a while to realize that I love turquoise a lot ((: 

I'm going to decorate my house with some turquoise color, not too much but just for accent color. Bright turquoise is really great as an accent color. Adding some pillows and old aqua shutters to my future den, but don’t think I’ll incorporate a lot more of it in my decor. And more thing, turquoise is so 1959 and so Mad Men-ish (((;

I even found out Pantone's statement when launching turquoise as color of the year 2009. “Turquoise evokes thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing.” Such a beautiful description, isn't it? 

So frolic with me through the land of turquoise. And here’s to a home that restores my sense of wellbeing.

Change

Goodness. Going through my old blog, by the way, it feels a lot like going through your old high school yearbook photos, where you had funny hair, bad complexion, braces and the works! I'm cringing yet amused by the way I used to blog last time, I write so differently now! But then again, I may say the same thing in another 4 years time about my current blog, hmm...

I have changed quite a lot since the first time I sign up on this blogger.com but I'm happy where I am now and what I am now. I've passed a lot of good and bad moments to get here yet by passing through them, I've grown. I grew up. I know who I am, I know what I like and I know what I believe in, without a doubt. I have changed.

The word change can conjure up many different feelings. I am both apprehensive or excited to the word "change". The process is not always pretty and sometimes forced people to leave their comfort zones. Some people welcome change with open arms and some fight it with everything they’ve got?. Everyone responds differently, but people are more likely to be accepting of change if they are the creator and they are more likely to oppose it when it is forced upon them. 

Life is full of change and that leads to growth. Change is what keeps us from becoming stagnant, keeps our life moving in the right direction and allows us to achieve the greatness we desire and deserve. Like it or not, we need to be willing to embrace it and work on being agile to go with the flow and change with the tides when something doesn’t go according to plan. Be brave because the road for the greater good is never easy and smooth.

Life is fleeting sometimes the days drag but the weeks and months fly by. Start actively doing things that are pushing you towards truly enjoying your life and if the only requirement is to change sometime, DO IT! Change for the better is good for you. Anyways, we only live once right?!

A Little Reunion

Reunited with old friends, we used to hang out everyday for 3 years of my life. Met at work and really connected. We live faraway from each other now, but yesterday three of us reunited once again! We don't change at all, just we don't get to see each other everyday anymore. First pic is from yesterday, the rest of the photos are the ones from 2005 to 2008, our best moments (:

We worked at the bank which cooperate with many restaurants in the country, and staffs get huge discounts.This was when our office cooperated with Hard Rock Cafe Jakarta, so four of us had dinner there after work ((:

This was my farewell dinner, I was the first one who resigned from our office. I took the girls to The Cafe, Hotel Mulia. It was a buffet dinner and we went mad and stayed there for 4 hours - eating, drinking and laughing.

We are the regular customers of Coffee Bean Plaza Senayan. This was when I took a day off then these two FORCED me to come. Plaza Senayan is definitely NOT the place to go when you're on your day off, because it's only 5 minutes walk from your office. It has the "I'm working today"-feel. I guess I love these two ladies too much.
