Cloud Atlas

I saw Samantha Ramage's post and immediately wanting to purchase Cloud Atlas book so by the time the movie comes out, I already read it / know what is it about. ((:

The movie will be released on October 26th this year, I have plenty of time to buy, read and finish the book. And this is the trailer that makes me want to see read and see the movie so badly:

And yay, it's available on iTunes store! Can't wait to add it to my e-bookshelves.

Fabo Links

Haven't posted few of my favorite things from all over the internet. It's time.

I love Design Sponge's website, they give great ideas into my everyday life. Been a fan since 2007 and still going strong (: Thanks Grace Bonney!

One of my favorite categories on Design Sponge would be the Living In articles. Check out some of my favorites:
Breakfast at Tiffany's (naturally),
Troop Beverly Hills (Yes, I know all of the lines to the movie. I've watched it since I was 7 - and I love the yellow and white striped stuffs),
Breathless (Aahh Jean Seberg and all those stripes clothes),
The original Parent Trap (Cute vintage items),
The Graduate (I love Mrs Robinson's house decor - great movie too!)
Coco Before Chanel (The Sailor Stripes and the classy and elegant style)
An Education (must love all the vintage clothes and accessories)

Also Design Sponge's Entertaining section, esp the recipes! I'm going to try out this Melissa Clark's Bacon, Rosemary and Tomato Pasta and will serve this dish to my husband when he's in town for a short visit! He loves pasta and adores bacon!

I love this Lands' End Canvas Look Book app on my iPad.

If you're an Interior Designer, you must have these 5 apps installed on your iPad.

This DIY looks quite easy and I love the turquoise colored tapered rectangle top. I hope I have the skill (and time) to do it (;

I AM NOT A FAN OF LADY GAGA (yes, this statement must be typed in capital letters) and on the contrary I LOVE TONY BENNETT. In this video, Tony Bennett as usual delivers a great performance (gotta love this old champ) and I must admit that Lady Gaga is doing a pretty good job here too. Still not a fan of her, but I do like this video.

Another incredibly easy DIY: Wrap-Turned-Scarf. Care to try?

Starting to love Kelly Framel's jewelry shop.

Also, today's October 12th! Don't forget to update your iTunes to 10.5 version so you can update your iPhone / iPod / iPad to iOS 5. Yay!

Currently loving Hillsong's Saviour King. God is Great!

Toodles! xox

APHOT: Star Wars Main Cast

I came across this awesome tumblr via Joanna Goddard (she always finds the most rad and cute stuffs on the internet) few months ago. Since then, I've been following this tumblr blog because I find the photos posted are rare, nice and have this "untold stories" vibes. And being pretty big fan of Star Wars, I was delighted when they posted this below photo.

And oh, I put "Part 1" on the title because there are possibilities in the future that I'm going to repost another photos from awesomepeoplehangingouttogether tumblr account. Thou shall wait and see.

Rainbow Brite

via Google/imagesearch

Aww, Rainbow Brite.  I still have a soft spot for that perky little blonde trying to bring color and happiness to the world, and I probably always will.
Rainbow Brite the movie: Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer --- via Google/imagesearch
I watched the movie, Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer on VHS tape in the 80s and it was one of my most favorite movies that time (still is actually lol). I actually lost count of how many times I watched the movie. I watched it again yesterday after all these years and guess what, I practically still remember some lines in this movie. How cute is that (; However, I regret I never had the toys. Boohoo.
My Rainbow Brite Tee by Junk Food Clothing.

However, few years ago, I managed to buy Rainbow Brite's t-shirt at Junk Food Clothing in Singapore. Bless you guys at Junk Food Clothing for making this tee... still my favorite until today!  (Will post the tee photo ASAP). Hence, the iPad's screen today...

PS: I hereby stating that I am not a fan of the recent remake / redesign of Rainbow Brite. It almost destroyed my childhood memories to pieces when I saw it.

More Dolphins Released...

Remember when I posted an entry about dolphins in Japan? Since then I've been a follower of Save Japan Dolphins Blog just to keep myself updated about the cause. If you already watched "The Cove" , a documentary about dolphins in Japan which also won an Oscar for the best documentary this year, than you probably know that the dolphins hunting/massacre happens every year in September. And we are now in the month of September.

Their latest entry made me happy :) here's the title: "The Latest from Taiji: More Dolphins Released" Yay! It is written that now those Taiji fishermen are applying the "no-kill-policy". No more dolphins are getting slaughtered. However, they still hunt down bottlenose dolphins to be captured and sold to aquariums. Those dolphins have been pulled from their families to be put in captivity. The non-bottlenose dolphins were released back into the sea. At least they don't kill dolphins anymore. I almost cried when I read this part:

"Six hunting boats took position outside the cove. At first the bottlenose dolphins did not realize that they were free. Then they did and started taking off slowly, then ever faster. The hunting boats started driving them out to sea in a sort of reverse drive hunt, but not as violently as they had driven them in the day before. In the end the dolphins were just literally flying towards the open ocean, trashing up a lot of white water. This could be seen for miles before they disappeared towards the horizon."

Awww :') but still, I'm against captivity of bottlenose dolphins. LET THEM BE FREE!!! Leave the dolphins alone! Please if you care about this too, please sign their petition or even better donate some of your money to end this horrible activity. Let's love the dolphins!

Inception ?

Spencer Starnes, well explained! The first time I saw the movie, I concluded that in the end, Cobb is in reality. Then I watched the movie for the second time few days after. I'm even more convinced that he ends up in reality. Then I stumbled upon his writing, I'm satisfied. But I must warn you, that his posting contains spoiler! Enjoy...

INCEPTION: Wait.. What happened?

I’ve seen Inception four separate times in five days. That’s 9.4 hours, 38 dollars and 12% of five days. Obviously, I’m in love with the film.  I can honestly say without a shadow of a doubt that it’s Christopher Nolan’s best film to date. Yes, better than The Dark Knight.

Now, I could talk about why the film was such a success for hours. I could write about how Hans Zimmer’s jarring score, Leonardo Dicapreo’s performance, Wally Pfister’s jaw dropping Cinematography, and Nolan’s suburb storytelling all come together to make this film something to be remembered. (Jordan’s review can be found here)

No, instead I will try my best to answer the most compelling question that Inception asks. What the hell happened in that final scene?

Many people are asking the same question. What happened to the top? Well, I’m going to go ahead and just say that we can’t know that it fell over. Nolan didn’t show it, so it doesn’t matter. Now, thats not to say there isn’t an answer.

Quite a few people believe that the final scene of the film is apart of Cobb’s dream. That Cobb is still trapped in limbo. That he has accepted whatever world he is in is truth. Explaining why Cobb didn’t watch the top fall over, he didn’t care. He wanted to see his kids.

See, I disagree with this theory. I disagree because Cobb knows for another reason. Remember, what was the most obvious difference between reality and the dream world? I personally think that the biggest difference was the presence of Cobb’s wife, Mal. Simply put, If Mal was present he was in a dream. His own or otherwise. We also know that it doesn’t really matter if she dies. Cobb shoots Mal in the snow layer, before they enter limbo. She came back. It’s safe to assume that she could come back again, right?

It’s possible that it could be a dream, and she could still be there. After all, things in the ending were pretty odd. Where was the children’s grandmother? Why haven’t the children grown to be much older, why are they wearing the same clothes? It was almost as if time didn’t pass in the Cobb household.

So what happened here? Was Cobb dreaming or was he not dreaming? Why did Nolan choose to not show the top, and keep the ending open for interpretation?

The answer to the second question is simple. He didn’t keep the ending open.

It’s a trap!

After multiple viewings of Memento, Nolan doesn’t seem like the kind of director to keep the ending so ambiguous. He didn’t show the spinning top to tell the audience “This isn’t the answer. This is irrelevant now.” To me, what really matters is his wedding ring.
  • In every scene of a dream. Cobb is wearing his wedding ring.
  • In every scene of reality. Cobb is ringless.
In fact, at some point in just about every scene, there is a fairly obvious shot of Cobb’s hand.

Now, this for me is black and white. There are countless of other examples, kindly highlighted by various forums discussing the films meaning
  • On the train before Saito wakes up. No Ring.
  • All of Mombasa. No Ring.
  • Yusuf’s basement, after dropping his totem. No Ring.
  • Paris workshop . No Ring.
  • Aridane’s first experience with Dream sharing. Wedding Ring.
  • First Class cabin scene. No Ring.
  • ALL of the inception. Wedding Ring.
  • Final scene of the film. No Ring.
Now, if we trust Cobb’s ring as his real totem, then Inception had a happy ending. All is well that ends well. That’s my interpretation, I’m sticking to it.

I believe that everything else in the film that suggests otherwise is a Red Herring. (Such as Cobb dropping his totem in the bathroom of Yusuf’s basement.)

As for the fact that the children didn’t age is easily disputed, in fact they are played by different actors. I could have sworn they were the same but it appears they were trying to suggest that time passed. Why else cast different sets of children.

So there you have it, thats what I think happened in Inception. Do you disagree? Do you think that’s almost too simple? Let’s hear it in the comments.

Ip Man 2

I'm falling in love again with Ip Man. Loved the first one and now the sequel. Grandmaster Yip Man was truly a great man, I adore him. Take some time to read his biography, it's rather interesting and mind blowing. The movies are also great, Donnie Yen is really good in playing the role of Yip Man. The kungfu fighting scenes are just marvelous. Ah, it's so easy for me to fall in love with movies/tv series about martial arts, I grew up with Condor Heroes series :) I have to thank my dad for introducing me to martial arts world.

Food, Inc.

I'm not going to lie...  but ignorance was kind of bliss. Yet I'm glad Food Inc made me take a deeper look at my own eating habits too. I'm going to start changing over to organic when possible, and eliminating some of the nasty ingredients that seem to spread throughout my food choices. I'm going to urge everyone I know to stop buying broiler chicken at the supermarkets and to look into getting meat from traditional markets.

Food Inc covers a vast number of food-related topics, such as food production history, slaughterhouse practices, corporate legal battles, and new trends in food manufacturing. One sentence that frightened me was the statement from one of the scientist, he said that food manufacturing is actually the marriage result between science and technology. Food? Science? Technology? That doesn't sound right and surely doesn't sound healthy at all.

By the end of the film, I was not paralyzed by pessimism; instead, I calmly dispensed of my remaining bottled drinks, planning to eat only healthy food, and promote healthy eating within my family and friends.  I'm going to eat more traditional food, they're tastier anyways. Thank goodness food technology hasn't gone advanced in Indonesia, so the Indonesians are still pretty safe. I'm going to avoid the "imported sections" in supermarkets now. They're expensive yet unhealthy. In my own small way, I have already made a difference.

Few tips from Food Inc:
- Buy meat/vegetables from traditional markets
- If you shop at supermarkets, read the label. Know what you buy. what you eat.
- Homecooking
- Buy organic food
- Avoid buying canned food, bottled drinks, instant meals, fast foods
- Tell your loved ones

Where The Wild Things Are

This movie probably and most likely is scandously underrated by many people who do not get the message. Some movies dont have to be all explosions and violence, SOME movies actualy have a message and this one tells it with such great emotion and depth, that you half to love it.

Unlike many childhood movies this film does a great job of portraying coming of age as a painful and tumultuous process. Giving up childhood fantasies and learning to accept responsibility for one's actions is a difficult process we all must undergo. Max learns about handling relationships and managing his anger.

Great film for adults, kids, and tweens. Highly recommended :)

Kora Kora and Bora Bora

via Google/imagesearch

I'm so in loove with St. Regis Bora Bora. Like insanely in love. I've always wanted to go there, but after seeing "Couples Retreat" movie few weeks ago... I've been dreaming about going specifically to St. Regis Bora Bora. Bora Bora is a very beautiful place, unbelievably gorgeous. And St. Regis? Oh I know St. Regis. Been to St. Regis Bali before, stayed there for a couple of days. It was definitely my best hotel experience. Amazing hotel interior, villas, pool, excellent food, superb service and I'm confident to say that it's the best hotel in Indonesia, today. Having that kind of experience in St. Regis Bali, do I need to doubt St. Regis Bora Bora? I'm sure it is beyond amazing! Oh somebody pinch me, I'm daydreaming while blogging.

So I told my dad about my desire of going. I did the usual stuff everytime I want something pretty big. Did a nice presentation, showed him the photos from the website and told him how much I wanted to go. In the end, he teased me by saying this: "Oh... why go to Bora Bora when we have Kora Kora?" Erghhh I hate it everytime he does that!!! Let me tell you, Kora Kora is located in Minahasa. Been there but NOT AS STUNNING AS BORA BORA! And of course, way a lot cheaper (read: affordable).

But tell you what dad... you owe me a birthday gift. Not necessarily some time soon, one day dad. I don't mind taking it next year or the year after that. But I know exactly, what I want.

note: when writing this post, blogger was not in the sanest form. blogger suffers an acute obsession with islands, beaches and holidays. the only way to cure her is by granting her wishes. Dad, I hope you read this. :D
