Folk Story: The Legend of Toar and Lumimuut

Since today is North Sulawesi's 48th Birthday, I'd like to share some old Minahasan folk story, about a man named Toar and a woman named Lumimuut. According to Minahasa mythology the Minahasans are descendants of Toar and Lumimuut. And oh, to get the Minahasan-feel to this folk story, play below video. It happens to be my grandfather's and my father's favorite Minahasan song! We still sing this song at our family gathering events in Minahasa. (;

So here the story goes...

Root of the Minahasa People

A very long time ago there was a beautifully shaped rock on the shore at the west side of the Wulur Mahatus mountain. This rock was not attracting much attention of the people because in fact there were not many people around by that time over there.

One day, in the dry season, the sun was shining so brightly, that the rock began to sweat. At the same time then a beautiful woman was created. Her name was Karema. She turned her head upward and spread her arms to the sky and prayed : ” O, Kasuruan opo e walian wangko! ” , which means : “O Great God if you will, say to me where I am and give me somebody to share my life with”

After saying this prayer, the beautiful rock split, and out of it appeared a beautiful young woman. Now Karema was not alone anymore and she said to the young woman : “Because you were created by a rock which was sweating I give you the name : Lumimuut. Your descendants will continue to live here and will multiply until they are as many as there are sand particles on the shore. But first you have to work very hard, and sweat.”

Monday ManiPedi: Pastel Polkadot French Manicure Style

Some fashion bloggers think that polkadots are going to be hip and trendy this fall, hence my polkadot nail art.

I did the dots randomly, just dotted them away. I did all the pastel dots on all 10 nails and was done in less than 15 minutes. Seal everything with top coat and voila, nice and shiny!

This time around I used pastel colors from OPI and essie, next time I'm going to put some more neon or dark dots on my nails because I really like this polkadot french manicure art. My nails look lovely and blend nicely with my clothes. ^^

Hello darlings!

Are you a risk-taker or safe-player? I think I have been a safe-player for serious matters most of the time and occasionally a risk-taker on fun / harmless craziness. It is very comforting in being a safe player but it's also extremely fun and dangerous to be a risk-taker, but I guess once in a blue moon we all probably should try to be a risk-taker just to add more spices / sparks (whatever you call it) to our daily routine and activities, again, in my opinion.

I'm not going to reveal my fun / harmless craziness here on this blog *grin* , however I could share the feelings I experience. Yes, my "20 seconds of insane courage" moments made my heart beating so fast like it could literally pop out of my chest, but the big laughter after the "20 seconds of embarrassing bravery" moments were priceless! I called them "my fun and silly things I did when I was young and will be the things I smile about when I'm old and ... *ahem* ... wise". *lol* I was really insanely courageous when I took those "leaps"! However, that was before I got married. Now I opt to always be a safe-player eventhough I secretly wish that I'd have "20 seconds of insane courage moment" when I'm at this parasailing facility someday. I hope I'd be brave enough to take that leap and overcome my acrophobia.

So what about you, darlings? If you haven't done those things, are you going to challenge yourself today, tomorrow or some time in the future or are you pretty comfortable being a safe-player? Whatever your decision is, I hope it brings you happiness and in peace with our daily routine and activities.

Now, unto the links for this Friday...

Really like this iPhone case.

DIY Sliding Knot Bracelet but I'll pick love charm or owl charm over the evil eye charm.

Monday ManiPedi: Mint Green and Coral Nails

I love the combination of these colors, well me and everybody else. Because mint green and coral are the "it" colors for this summer. The colors are very pretty and combined together, they look happy and bright. So this time I created an abstract triangle nail art using these colors and I love the end result, which reminds me I have to buy a new top coat for a perfect finishing.

Coral: Essie Tart Deco ---> I really LOVE this color. I hope Essie won't discontinue this color, ever!
Mint Green: Essie Mint Apple Candy.

Sunday Thoughts: Forget The Past, Look Forward

via spiritual inspiration

One thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. Philippians 3:13, NIV.

Are you allowing the small things in life to keep you from God’s best? Today is the day to press past the small things and run toward your destiny! Unforgiveness is a small thing. Forgive and move on to the greater thing. Fear is small. It’s not from God. Don’t let it hold you back. An addiction is small. You have the power to overcome anything through Christ Jesus. Being undisciplined is small. If you are a believer today, you have the seed of Almighty God inside of you. There is no challenge that’s too difficult for you!

I think about Joshua and Caleb. When they came back from spying out the Promised Land they said, “Moses, we are well able to take the land. Let us go in at once.” Not next week. Not next year. They were “now” people. But if you over-analyze your situation and think about all the “what if’s” and try to get approval from all your family and friends, you’ll never move off of dead center. You’ll be stuck in the small things.

Today, make the decision to press forward. Be like Joshua and Caleb. Don’t look at your circumstances; look at your God because He is the one who is empowering you to take hold of the good things He has for your future!

Fabulous Friday Finds

via Miguel Palomar

Hello darlings!

So this weekend I'm going to just chill and watch Olympic matches (you can also watch the matches on youtube.com btw) at home. This Olympic has this effect on me, I'm going to find out where I stand, speed-wise, in 100m sprints and also 400m sprints. I've always been the fastest runner in school since I was a little girl and my last sprint was back in 2006 at my office's sporting event. I won easily, not exaggerating but if you've seen Secretariat historic win, the situation was exactly like that, only I was the Secretariat. *smugface* LOL! But as I'm getting older *sigh* I'm a bit skeptical that I'm still as fast as I used to be. Fact: I have never lost to girls / women, I only lost once to a man (my cousin Marcel, who runs as fast as a Cheetah).

Lately I've been practicing a little with my huskies Chewy and Lowy but they always win! (;

Oh well, I hope I could record my time sometime soon. I understand Olympic sprinters run in about the 10-11 second range, I know I'm definitely not in their league, but it would be nice to know my own speed record. I'll update you guys the result soon! (:

While we're at this Olympics topic, take a look at these hilarious Olympic divers moment on Zindy's blog. ((:

I need to master this before my Lombok trip.

'til next week! kiss!

Cloud Atlas

I saw Samantha Ramage's post and immediately wanting to purchase Cloud Atlas book so by the time the movie comes out, I already read it / know what is it about. ((:

The movie will be released on October 26th this year, I have plenty of time to buy, read and finish the book. And this is the trailer that makes me want to see read and see the movie so badly:

And yay, it's available on iTunes store! Can't wait to add it to my e-bookshelves.

Sunday Thoughts: Feed Your Faith

via spiritualinspiration

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6, NIV)

Do you know what pleases God? He’s not impressed by how much knowledge we have. He isn’t influenced by how many possessions we have. He’s not moved by our accomplishments, He is moved simply by our faith in Him.

What’s interesting is that faith is a gift. It’s not something we have to contrive or work up. The scripture tells us that everyone has been given a measure of faith and that faith grows as we hear the Word of God. That’s why it’s so important to stay connected to a Bible-based church where you can hear the Word of God taught. That’s why we have to make time every day to read and study His Word because you’re feeding your faith. The more you feed your faith, the more you know Him and understand His goodness.

Today, take time to feed your faith. Meditate on His Word and ask Him to illuminate your heart with His truth. Trust that He is good and has good things in store for your future because that is faith that pleases God.

Prada Marfa

How many of you recognize this Prada Marfa sign?

via art.com and also can be purchased there.

Prada Marfa is an art installation and also the exact replica of a Prada store in Marfa, Texas. Inside, like museum pieces displayed against a perfect white backdrop, are Prada heels and bags. All the treasures inside are genuine Prada products from its autumn 2005 collection. ‘The sculpture will never function as a place of commerce, the door cannot be opened,’ says the plaque beside the installation, just in case you were wondering. The place is firmly sealed so you could never get inside.

Well I suppose most of you know this sign from Gossip Girl. The sign which placed at the Bass / Van der Woodsen luxurious penthouse below...

via apartment therapy.

I would really love to put up that sign at my house as well as the series of photographs taken at Prada Marfa by Gray Malin. Or I might as well do a DIY just like this girl here, since my first two options are quite pricey. I'm just secretly arty, not all out arty, so I'm not that willing to purchase pricey art stuffs.

But the Prada Marfa itself is without a doubt, a completely amazing piece of art and I truly hope one day I'll get the chance to admire it in person. Amen.

Well hello darlings!

What a crazy beautiful view, isn't it! I wonder where's the location since the person who pinned this didn't exactly mention it. This pic also makes me want to go on a little vacay so badly! Some of my friends had asked me to go Vietnam / Thailand / Singapore next month but at the same time my husband will be here in Jakarta. I'll have to take a rain check. Sorry, ladies... bad timing ):

Anyways eventhough there won't be any jacuzzi with killer view for me this weekend, I'll just settle with some good books I picked up earlier this week. That's good enough for me. (: I hope you'll have a pleasant weekend as well!

Links this Friday:

Take me to gelato tasting in italy!

This pair of sunglasses... It was love at first sight really. But then I found out Elizabeth and James has almost the same pair and cheaper (half the price). Gorgeous aren't they!

I agree

Great for any homes with dogs too.

Herb garden in the kitchen? I love this!

35+ years in the making toothpick sculpture by Scott Weaver. And it’s kinetic.

Love big hair.

Downton Abbey's season 2 costume highlights. I'm waiting in vain for season 3!!!

DIY: Bra to bathing suit. Interesting!

'til next Friday, darlings! Kiss.

Path To Inner Peace

via Pinterest

This quote is very true. I've been applying this to my life, hence my abandoned twitter account, instagram account and path account. I honestly can't find inner peace if I keep on checking my old twitter feed / old instagram feed / old path feed since there are too many dramas... so I simply "ignore" them. For me, it's a blessing not to know any gossip / ill behavior / when some people are spreading negative vibes. Do you any of you ever feel the same way? Or am I the only weird anti-social gal in the whole wide world? And if I'm bringing the negative vibe by blogging this post (I know I am), just do what I usually do, ignore! (;

Love you my darling readers! Please keep in mind that I will not abandon this blog, I will keep on blogging until the end of my life. Because this blog is one of my paths to inner peace. (:

PS: Since I have big love for instagram, few months ago I created new instagram account where I don't follow anyone (not even my husband) and no one follows me. I love it. However, since my blog readers are my favorite people, you can see my instagram feed here or just look at the slideshow on top right corner of this blog. But please don't follow my instagram account! LOL ((; I don't share all of my pics, eventhough most of them I share with everyone but I keep private few of my photos for some reasons. I still need privacy of course. (;

Hector Series

via BooksActually

Last year I read Francois Lelord's Hector and The Search of Happiness and I loved it. So now I'm going to go to my favorite bookstore (YAY!) to get the rest of Hector series. I'm just hoping they're gonna be as great as Hector and The Search of Happiness. Eventhough I recently purchased Game of Thrones series (already watched the Season 1 and Season 2 and quite intrigued to read the books) and 50 Shades trilogy since everyone on the internet is recommending those two. In other words, I still have books I haven't read yet despite the fact I'm gonna run to the bookstore once again. I admit I'm greedy when it comes to books. Judge me. Whatever. #ForgiveMeMyWallet

I'm almost done reading The Hunger Games trilogy, currently reading Book 3: Mockingjay. So far, I'm loving The Hunger Games trilogy. It's so hard for me to put the book down, back to the real life. Suzanne Collins is brilliant! And it's gonna be even harder for me to part ways with Katniss and friends... pretty sure I'm going to have "book hangover".

Fabulous Friday Finds

via Pinterest
Hello darlings!

Don't you just love yummy desserts! Well, I do. I do love desserts. Although I have a wicked sweet tooth, it's discriminating. I don't like anything that's too sweet, such as sweet candies / caramelized apple (basically everything with caramel in it, so no Crème brûlée for me) / cupcakes with way-too-thick-icing. Just because it has sugar in it doesn't mean I'm going to eat it. Oh dear I hope I don't sound like a desserts snob. (; My kinds of cakes are cheesecakes (all kinds), tiramisu, red velvet and chocolate (esp. nutella) cakes.

Anyhoo... I always eat cake every weekend (not everyday, I'm avoiding diabetes lah) to keep my sanity and what I have been thinking about is which sweet treats I will indulge this weekend! Mmm... can't wait!

Have a yummy weekend!

If you want to try to make your own desserts, you might want to try this no bake cheesecake / pink vanilla pocky cake / tiramisu cheesecake / s'mores chocolate chip cookies

I want this tee.

I can relate to this very much. Happens to me everytime!

I'm so in love with this pair of sunglasses.

Gorgeous installation for Dior 2012 AW haute couture show.

DIY color blocked spoons.

I can't find my pantone color, can you find yours?

1920s screen sirens.

Some cute hot air balloon centerpieces!

'til next Friday! kiss.
